USB 2 vs. USB 3 for Photographers
Lexar USB 2 CompactFlash/SD dual-slot reader vs. Lexar USB 3 CompactFlash/SD dual-slot reader with CalDigit USB 3 Card on Mac Pro

I'm an avid photographer with a Canon 5D Mk II and Canon 60D as a backup. Both make pictures north of 20MB a piece.
I have a CalDigit USB 3 PCIe card in my Mac Pro and got a Lexar USB 3 dual-slot reader which is nearly identical to a USB 2 version I already had. I took a Transcend 600X UDMA card and decided to pit the two against each other.
Bottom line: you'll cruise along about twice as fast getting images off your cards. Mileage will vary. SD cards can't cruise as fast, but still import faster than under USB 2.
Is it worth it? Probably not. Unless you're really impatient.
